Three Castles, Welsh Borders. 24-25 June 1999
We suitably beat the
bounds of the Welsh Borders in excellent weather, reclaiming the Three Castles
for the English.
The triangular 21-mile
walk was duly completed by the Killicks although Mad Mike probably covered 42
miles, half of which on his own, due to his unwavering ability to keep losing
his way. 'It's the bloody signpost's fault — it's pointing in the wrong
direction' being about the lamest of excuses.
The Poet Laureate is
expected to produce an appropriate poem about the romantic ruins of the old
coaching inn, lost in the middle of nowhere, almost as lost as her camera case
but nowhere near as lost as Mad Mike.
Reconvening at
Birdman's cottage in Tintern allowed Mad Mike to display his greater skills
around the dog agility course.
While Huw
"Megabyte" Jenkins failed abysmally to make the meet, he followed up
a couple of weeks later to help the Medlands conquer the Skirrid, the lump
overhanging Abergavenny and in sight of the 3 CW.
Participants: "Mad" Mike Petzold,
Verena "Muesli" Petzold and Maisie "Poet Laureate" Petzold,
John "Koenig von Mulanje" Killick, Anne Killick, plus Bob
"Birdman" Medland and Claire and two Border collies
