MINI-METHS, HAWES, YORKSHIRE DALES – 21-24
September 2022
Verena and I arrived 1 day late and the Kelly family had to leave 1
day early, so our traditional 4-day meet was reduced to 2 days – but exciting
days they were! We met at our favourite Fountain
Inn on the first night, for a beer or 3, before crossing the road to the famous
Wensleydale Pantry for their usual tasty local delicacies and very generous
servings.
On Day One, we walked from Bolton Castle to Carperby,
with lunch at the Wheatsheaf – returning to Bolton Castle via an alternative
route. Yes, we scrambled up & down
some 40 steep and narrow STILES (you missed out Neil !)
via the ancient dry-stone walls on remote undulating farmland – 6 miles. The evening was spent enjoying “aperitifs” at
the Fountain and thence to the same wonderful venue for dinner.
Day Two was a slightly longer route - ca. 7 miles - from Hawes to Butterset and return via the Sedbusk
circular track and stepping stones across the river – that required careful
planning before we stepped onto the 1st stone!
Many thanks to the Kellies for their
planning and route-finding skills.
Attendees: Verena & Mike Petzold, plus 4 Mason descendants, Kathy
Kelly, husband David and sons Chris and James.
Roll on next year’s A.W.C.
