Hawes, Yorkshire Dales, England – Mini-METHS - September 2019

In attendance were Mike and Verena Petzold and Kathy and Dave Kelly, a
select gathering to be sure!  Mike and Verena arrived Wednesday evening
and ate at the Fountain.  Next morning we all met up at Hubberholme and,
after admiring the 12th century church, set off to enjoy a very pleasant
wander around the 3 pubs walk, calling first at Buckden, then onto Cray
for lunch at the White Lion, having safely negotiated the stepping
stones in our path.  We finished with drinks at the George. A very
pleasant day with only a short need for waterproofs.  Our evening meal
was taken at the Wensleydale Pantry and we rounded off the evening with
a game of scrabble in the resident's lounge.  Mike and Verena needed to leave
early on the Friday but Kathy and Dave drove to Ribblehead station and
caught the train to Dent in order to walk back to the car.  A nine mile walk
starting up the Coal Road and contouring around Great Knoutberry Hill
before descending by Artengill Beck, along to Cowgill and up and over the
top of Blea Moor tunnel.  A good 4.5 hours were needed to complete the route
and we felt it a great walk for dry weather (it would soon get soggy underfoot
after a period of rain).  Drinks and a meal at the Station Inn followed by the
roaring fire.
