Yorkshire Dales, England – Mini-METHS - Sat. 13th to Tues. 16th September 2018

Sunday morning saw the arrival of Dave and Kathy Kelly who arrived in time for the day's walking.  The weather was not too promising at first with the tail end of Storm Callum lingering in the Dales.  We decided to drive to Cam Houses and started our walk along the Pennine Way in light rain.  Thankfully this soon gave way to a dry but grey sky as we negotiated the green lane in the company of motorbikes and 4x4's!  Walking that day were Mike, Verena, Brian, Kathy and Dave.

Sadly, Brian took a tumble and landed awkwardly on his shoulder but soldiered on bravely to the finish.  Leaving Brian safely in the pub, the others returned to collect the car and were rewarded by long distance views and sunshine over Morecambe Bay.

The evening was spent enjoying a meal at the Wensleydale Pantry and catching up with the non-walkers, Jane, Richard and Lyn who had been for a drive over Buttertubs.  Those not needing too early a night enjoyed a game of rude scrabble, won by Mike who was blessed with the letters F,C and K!

Monday was much improved weatherwise and Richard kindly dropped Mike, Verena, Kathy and Dave at Thwaite for another day on the Pennine Way.  This time a 10-mile walk over Great Shunner Fell to Hawes in glorious sunshine.  Mostly we had the route to ourselves, meeting just a few other walkers and a group of runners who were training for the 268 nonstop Spine Race along the full length of the Pennine Way.  Hats off to them - we won't be attempting that one!  Brian, Jane, Richard and Lyn had been to Leyburn and over to the Buck at Buckden.  Dinner that evening was taken between the Wensleydale Pantry and the Board Inn, with nightcaps at the latter by the roaring log fire.
