Attendees: Jean (Cheeky)
Hayward, Andrex (Motley) Motte-Harrison, Verena (Müesli) & Michael (Mad)
Petzold
Highlights
·
Warm weather – wall to wall blue sky throughout and no wind
·
Spectacular views over the Wairau Valley and beyond (Verena reckons the
best views she’s ever seen)
·
3 peaks, including Beeby’s Knob -
4,862’ (& Vreni’s summit noggins,
see photo)
·
Andrew’s whisky and ginger
cocktails, upon returning to the hut each evening,
·
The view from the chim.
·
Not only did we have Beeby’s Hut to ourselves but the whole mountain –
not a single other human sighted – in 3 days.
·
Great evening’s entertainment as the resident mouse burgled Jean’s
rucksack – serves her right for winning the Rude Scrabble at the last minute!
·
No sandflies
·
Speight’s Draft in the bar of the Alpine Lodge on the final evening
Lowlights (other than nearly running out of candles)
·
Mix up over rendezvous point – we had parked our cars in two different
places, thus delaying the start for nearly an hour.
·
Poor turnout – i.e. lack of quantity (4 members only), but it was the quality (see names above) that
counted! We should have been SIX, but
….
·
Gordon (RSB) Craig was stuck in Melbourne
following the Vanuatu cyclone and could not get home in time to pack his
rucksack. Neil (Bwana Nilo) Stiles was unable to attend as the dates clashed
with his business and social commitments.
Neil complained he had not received the statutory 1 year’s notice of the
event.
·
Jean screamed the hut down one night when she caught a mouse burgling her
rucksack.
·
Mike lost the Rude Scrabble
