Cape Point (From Buffelsfontein Visitor
centre to Kanonkop (236 m) to Die Boer Peak (287 m) and onto Smitswinkel Buff and our second
car at the car park.) “Isn't this Fantastic!” Once the whale vertebrae are Back in place, we set off Over wet grassland. White Everlastings and bright daisies Abound so prolifically, the ladies stop To zoom in and click. Low, black and threatening, The black canon points over the bay. A dramatic view but it's too windy! We cower below on some rocks To eat, and drink tea. Paulsberg looms temptingly But there's Die Boer yet ahead to climb. We examine rocks and stare across the sea as We ascend more red rock. Mike rocks the boulder at Half-way point. Our path is now inland Up to the car park. More flowers, then a turquoise headed iguana Stops, yet again, three ladies. By three o'clock, we’ve reached the car. It's been fantastic. Day 2
Silvermine East (From 15 Cockle Crescent to Cave Peak Ridge (445 m) onto Amphitheatre below Kalk Bay Ridge
and Spes Bona valley with yellow
woods, finishing at Kalk Bay) Up the Gully Steadily we climb To over-top Trappieskop. China flowers line our route. Birdsong and lusher fynbos today. Then elated, we've done the gully. Scattered over the ridge Are outcrops, sculptured By the wind: a bird, a dog, Hungry Harry. Under the yellowoods we find Welcome shade and silence. Eventually in Kalk BayTown below A jazz trio, coffee and beer to revive us. Day 3
Silvermine West (From Crag circuit and up to Steenberg ridge and then Crassula Path onto and along Noordhoek ridge to far side of Silvermine reservoir) Four Re-cycled Teenagers Hit
Noordhoek Peak (754 m) Our late-ish start up the Crag circuit Gives us views of Tokai and Table Mountain And Noordhoek beach below. A black eagle soars overhead. We climb Steenberg ridge to birdsong. Hout Bay harbour spreads beneath us. Our target: the large cairn beyond the ridge. Male and female sun birds pose for us. No sign of the black eagle's nest. But the top's panorama is stunning. We munch sandwiches and rest. A black skink disdains our bit of cheese. Regretfully we leave the top, Descending quickly and then up and over A lower ridge to the reservoir below. Three of us join small fish for a swim. |
