North Yorkshire, England. 6-10 June 2007

Leader:  Ian (Axeman) Mason

Good weather, good company, good days on the hills and good nights in the pub just about sums it up.

Mason and Petzold shared accommodation and this went off better than they or anyone expected.  Mad Mike wished that he had brought his tape recorder to capture the dawn chorus in room 4.  Socks congratulated Axeman for the second best quote of the meet.  Being questioned later he could not remember it, so it could not have been that good.

First day the party went over Buttertubs to Muker.  Then it was up that lovely part of the Swale unspoilt by pylons, roads etc to Crackpot Hall.  We then went up the spectacular Swinnergill and up past the Kirk.  Then it was over the grouse moor to Rogan’s Seat 2003'.  A good track took us down Gunnerside Gill to Ivelet.  The gill was the scene of much lead mining activity and although time has partially healed the scars the area is still awesome.

Friday was a “go as you please” day although most took part in some of Axeman’s Three Pubs Walk.  A good lunch at the White Hart in Cray after which some went off to bash Buckden Pike 2302'.  Four of us went off to the “George” at Hubbersholme and also took in the mediaeval church and finally to the “Buck” at Buckden.  The Macklins still full of energy were dropped off on the Cam High Road to do Dodd Fell 2189' and over Ten End 1917' and down to Hawes.  The glee club had a session in the seclusion of the residents’ lounge but most of the Hotel were on the receiving end loud and clear.

Saturday the final day we tackled Penhill Beacon 1685' then along the escarpment and over Penhill itself 1792' and down the gill for a pub lunch at the Fox and Hounds, West Burton.

I think it can be said that everyone enjoyed the meet and all being well another meet will be lined up for this area next year.
