Viphya, Malawi. Thurs 27 to Sun 30 September 2001
The only member who
bothered to pitch up was Midnight Jack Bannister. He made an heroic effort to
get to Luwawa from the Tanzanian coast on the right date (but no doubt at
midnight), only to find the leader George 'Wardrobe' Wardlow had done a voetsak
— or maybe it was a bunk! (Jack, did you look in the wardrobe?)
It seems that Jack had
a nice time scrambling around the Viphya on his tod. Whether he climbed three
peaks is not known because there was no one to do it with (as the bishop said
to the actress).
However, in view of
Jack's bona fide efforts, it seems only reasonable that he is credited
with attending one meet.
